Talitin - The third (le troisième)
Event
Ahmed Umar’s performance, “Talitin نِتِلاَت - (The Third),” is a radical reimagining of the Sudanese wedding dance. This is a rite of passage performed during traditional Sudanese wedding ceremonies. The dance is typically customized for each bride, featuring a unique set of songs and choreography. Claiming his place within this tradition, the artist’s performance is the first of its kind to present this dance on a queer male body while preserving its traditional elements. It celebrates the collective customs he grew up with, while questioning certain aspects of his queer identity and experiences, as well as his ties to his family and community. The performance is presented in collaboration with Sudanese singer Alsarah, who was trained by a lineage of women before her, where she takes on the role of “alwazira” by introducing the bride to the audience.
Ahmed Umar’s invitation is presented in collaboration with MansA - Maison des Mondes Africains.
An exhibition initiated and produced by Le Nouveau Printemps, in co-production with the Centre national des arts plastiques and La Place de la Danse – Centre de développement chorégraphique national Toulouse Occitanie.
