Table ronde : Publier un centre d'art — À propos de trois monographies
Event
This year, a roundtable discussion titled Publishing an Art Center — On Three Monographs will be held on Saturday, May 30, from 10 AM to 12 PM in the Media Library Auditorium, as part of the Salon des Editions d'Art en Occitanie #3.
This will be an opportunity for discussion to explore how the editorial and graphic design projects of three collaboratively produced books reflect very different approaches to archives, iconography, and art history, and thus pursue very different goals. Alongside the bookstalls, an exhibition featuring a selection of works by regional artists from the collections of Les Abattoirs, Musée – Frac Occitanie Toulouse.
Art history is first and foremost the history of artists, but also that of the venues where they exhibit. Alongside publications dedicated to an artist’s work and exhibition catalogs, numerous monographs document the history of these venues, their exhibitions, and events.
This event will explore, through three books published in Occitanie on three regional art centers (Le Lait in Albi, Le CRAC in Labège, and the BBB art center in Toulouse), different ways of sharing and telling the stories of those who brought them to life. We will examine how the editorial and graphic design of these three books, created collaboratively, reflect distinct approaches to archives, iconography, and art history, thereby pursuing varied objectives.
The roundtable is moderated by Olivier Huz, graphic designer and professor of graphic design at the Institut supérieur des arts et du design de Toulouse, with contributions from Léa Besson, independent curator and author, co-director of the BBB art center in Toulouse (2020–2026) for the publication Be Bad & Bold, 30 Years of the BBB, Trèfle Édition, by Antoine Marchand, director of the Le Lait Art Center in Albi for Chronicles of the Le Lait Art Center (1983–2018), and by Julien Michel, PhD in art history, curator and research fellow at Les Abattoirs, Museum – FRAC Occitanie Toulouse, for CRAC, FRAC, DRAC! Ten Years of Creation at the Regional Center for Contemporary Art in Labège (1985–1994), Manuella Éditions.
