Diaspora Wonderland Toulouse

To mark the launch of Le Nouveau Printemps by Rossy de Palma, "Diaspora Wonderland" is coming to Toulouse in Occitanie, bringing together works by three artists: Pilar Albarracín, Sophia Kacimi, and Nassim Azarzar.

A traveling project among various European cultural centers, based on an original concept by Lotfi Aoulad, Diaspora Wonderland aims to highlight the cultural richness of Afro-Mediterranean diasporas and explore how these narratives have traversed bodies, generations, and geographies.

Children born into exile grew up with an image of the countries they left behind, passed down by parents who themselves were removed from the changes taking place.

This disconnect has fueled powerful imaginations, nurtured within diasporic circles and shared with the wider world. The term “diaspora,” derived from the Greek spiro—“I sow”—evokes much more than mere dispersion. It speaks of bonds, attachments, wounds, and above all, new creations. From the tension born of exile, between loss and reinvention, “wonderlands” can emerge—territories where identity, desire, and memory intertwine. Through fashion, design, visual arts, dance, and storytelling, Diaspora Wonderland invites you on a journey alongside artists orbiting these cultural constellations. It is a sensory journey, where the intimate and memories transform into living matter to together enter these wondrous worlds.
