Ana Vaz

Born in 1986. Lives and works in Paris.

Ana Vaz is an artist and filmmaker born in the Brazilian Midwest, a region haunted by the ghosts buried beneath its modernist capital: Brasília.

Her filmography challenges and questions cinema as the art of the (in)visible and as an instrument capable of transforming human perception, broadening connections with non-human or spectral forms of life. As an extension or expansion of her filmmaking, her artistic activities also take the form of writing, critical pedagogy, installations, and collective walks. Her recent exhibitions include the 18th Istanbul Biennial, the 12th edition of SITE Santa Fe, as well as solo exhibitions at the Vienna Secession and Cinema Batalha (Porto). In 2024–2025, she is a resident at the Villa Medici in Rome, where she is developing the screenplay for her second feature film.
